Mia Stanton

Violin

Mia grew up in a musical family and was first inspired to take lessons after listening to the sounds of her father playing jazz piano as a young girl. Throughout her school years in Canberra, Mia took violin lessons with Rowan Harvey-Martin, piano lessons with Suzanne Hewitt and played in various orchestras and ensembles. She went on to attend the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) in 2018 with Associate Professor Alice Waten and continued her studies from 2019-2021 at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) with Dr Robin Wilson and Zoë Black.

In 2021, Mia won a position in the first violin section of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and has been loving orchestral life ever since. She has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra Collective, Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra’s Momentum Ensemble, and Ensemble APEX.

Chamber music has always been close to Mia’s heart. One of her chamber music highlights was attending the Estivo Chamber Music Summer School in Verona in Italy with her wonderful quartets from the Sydney Conservatorium in 2017 and 2018.

Mia has also had the privilege to premier new Australian works including Charlie Sdraulig’s Aside at the ANAM Set Festival in 2022, Margaret Legge-Wilkinson’s Three Reminiscences for violin and piano in 2020 and Cameron Lam’s song cycle The Art of Disappearing in 2019. Mia is a passionate educator and loves sparking the joy of music making in young musicians.
